Tosa Maidan sits at approximately 3,000 metres in the Budgam district of West Kashmir — one of the largest high-altitude meadows in the entire Kashmir Valley and one of the least visited. The meadow was used as an artillery range by the Indian Army for several decades and its opening to civilian tourism is relatively recent, which means the infrastructure around it is still at the basic end and the footfall is still at the level where a group can spend a full day on the grass without seeing another tour vehicle.
