Mansar Lake sits approximately 62 kilometres east of Jammu in the Samba district at approximately 640 metres — a crescent-shaped freshwater lake enclosed by low forested hills that has been a pilgrimage site for the Hindu and Sikh communities of the Jammu region for generations. The lake is associated with the Sheshnag serpent deity in local tradition and the temples on the southern shore have drawn devotees from the Jammu plains for longer than the recorded pilgrimage history of the region covers.
