Overview

The houseboats on Dal Lake in Srinagar are built from deodar and walnut wood — hand-carved interiors, covered verandas facing the water and a kitchen at the rear where the host family prepares breakfast before the rest of the lake wakes up. They have been moored on this lake since the colonial period when British officers, barred from owning land in Kashmir, built floating homes instead. Itinerary

The srinagar houseboat kashmir package begins at Srinagar Airport where the Bon Voyagers vehicle is waiting. The drive to the Dal Lake ghat takes approximately 20 minutes. The houseboat host meets the group at the water's edge and the transfer from the ghat to the moored houseboat is by a short shikara ride. The afternoon private shikara on Dal Lake covers the main lake body — the floating gardens where Kashmiri farmers grow tomatoes and cucumbers on reed-mat platforms, the Char Chinar island in the middle of the lake and the Boulevard Road shore.
