Sinthan Top sits at approximately 3,748 metres in the Pir Panjal range of South Kashmir — a high mountain pass that connects the Anantnag district of the Kashmir Valley to Kishtwar district and the Chenab catchment beyond. The road to the top is one of the more dramatic drives in the entire region. Snow sits on both sides of the road well into June in most years and the pass itself gives a view across two completely different landscapes — the Kashmir Valley side green and terraced below, the Kishtwar side dropping into a harder, more angular terrain where the vegetation changes abruptly.
