Overview
The Umngot River at Shnongpdeng has a quality that takes a moment to trust. The water is clear enough to see the riverbed at full depth, and the boats on the surface appear to float in mid-air above the stones below – not a trick of the light, just what happens when sediment is genuinely absent. Bon handles the vehicle from Guwahati, a hotel night in Shillong on Night 1 and two nights at the riverside camp at Shnongpdeng for Nights 2 and 3. Day 3 is a full river day with no vehicle needed and no fixed schedule. Day 4 moves to Mawlynnong for the Riwai root bridge and village walk before the return toward Guwahati. The Dawki boat ride is paid locally on Day 2. The Umngot runs clear November to May and brown with monsoon sediment June through October.
