Naranag sits at the foot of Mount Harmukh in the Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir — a village that holds an 8th century Hindu temple complex in partial ruin on the bank of the Wangath River, a glacier visible above the treeline from the village lanes and a trail into the high-altitude lake system that the wider Kashmir Great Lakes circuit is built around. The Gangabal Twin Lakes — Gangabal and Nundkol — sit at approximately 3,576 metres above the village and are the destination that YouTube trekking content on this area almost entirely focuses on.
