Itinerary

This kinnaur tour package from Shimla begins on the old Hindustan-Tibet Road, built during colonial rule to connect Shimla with the Tibetan trade routes and still the only way into Kinnaur by land. The roughly six hour drive to Sarahan passes Narkanda and Rampur before climbing to Sarahan itself, home to the Bhimakali Temple, a fortress-style shrine combining Hindu and Buddhist architectural elements. Evening is free to walk the temple grounds before dinner. Overnight in Sarahan.

Best Time to Visit

Kinnaur sits considerably higher than Shimla, and the temperature drops noticeably the further east the route travels, with Kalpa and Sangla both cold enough for proper woollens even in summer evenings. Winter, December through February, brings heavy snow that closes much of this route entirely. March through June offers clear roads and blooming orchards, while September and October bring the apple harvest and the sharpest mountain views of the year, making autumn the strongest single window for this circuit.
