Kinnaur sits considerably higher than Delhi's own plains climate, and the temperature drops noticeably the further east the route travels, with Kalpa and Sangla both cold enough for proper woollens even in summer evenings. Winter, December through February, brings heavy snow that closes much of this route entirely. May through June and September through October offer the clearest roads and skies.
