Best Time to Visit

All three villages on this route sit at meaningful altitude, and temperatures drop steadily the further the road climbs, with Chitkul noticeably colder than Sangla below it even in peak summer. Winter closes much of this route under snow from December through February. May through June and September through October offer the clearest roads and skies, with autumn also bringing the region's apple harvest into full swing around Sangla and Kalpa both.
