Overview for Jolly Buoy Island Andaman Package

Jolly Buoy Island sits inside the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park off the south coast of South Andaman Islands, accessible by boat from Wandoor village approximately 29 kilometres from Port Blair. It is one of two small islands in the park — Jolly Buoy and Red Skin — that the forest department opens to tourists on an alternating year basis. When Jolly Buoy is open, Red Skin is closed for reef recovery. The following year the arrangement reverses. This rotation exists because both islands have coral reef ecosystems that accumulate damage from visitor presence and the alternating closure gives each reef a full year to recover. The snorkelling around Jolly Buoy on a calm day within the October to May open season is among the better reef experiences available from the South Andaman mainland — away from the harbour turbidity that affects sites closer to Port Blair, the water over the reef runs clearer. Day 1 covers the Cellular Jail and port city arrival. Day 2 is the Jolly Buoy Island full day — Wandoor jetty, boat to the island, reef snorkelling and glass bottom boat, return by afternoon. Day 3 is the Chiriya Tapu full day — the southernmost point of South Andaman, its mangrove forest and its birding. Day 4 is Port Blair deep — Ross Island, North Bay and the Samudrika Naval Marine Museum. Day 5 is the departure. Private AC Ertiga or Xylo class vehicle covers all road transfers.
