In 2006 a team of ornithologists described a new bird species from Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary called the Bugun Liocichla, named after the Bugun tribe who live near the forest. Best Time to Visit
Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary is best visited from October to April, when the forest trails are dry and walkable. March and April are the peak birding months when spring migration brings species through and the rhododendrons in the upper forest attract sunbirds and flycatchers. November through February is steady and less crowded with good wintering species. The monsoon between May and September makes the access road into the camp unreliable.
