Chanshal sits at roughly four thousand five hundred metres at its highest point, genuinely cold even in peak summer and fully snow-covered through winter, when the region becomes a real winter landscape rather than just a cold hill station. May through June offers the clearest access before monsoon rains complicate the approach road, while September through November brings the sharpest views and the valley's wildflowers giving way to autumn colour.
