Expect warm, humid days at Phuentsholing and Punakha even when Thimphu and Paro turn crisp, since this route drops from over 2,300 metres down to under 400 near the Indian border within a single day's drive. March to May brings clear skies and blooming rhododendrons in the higher valleys, while September to November offers the sharpest mountain views after the monsoon clears. December and January get properly cold in Thimphu and Paro, occasionally with light snow near Dochula Pass.
