Best Time to Visit

Phuentsholing stays warm and humid year-round, while Thimphu, Punakha and Gangtey each sit at different altitudes along the route, so temperatures shift noticeably day to day. Gangtey is the coldest stop, sitting near 2,900 metres with frost common through winter, while Punakha stays mild even in December. March to May brings clear skies and blooming jacaranda at Punakha, while October to February offers the sharpest Himalayan views along with Gangtey's crane season. Carry layers rather than dressing for a single climate across this route.
