Most Andaman itineraries follow the same three-island loop — Port Blair, Havelock, Neil. It is a good loop and it works. But Baratang Island, roughly 100 kilometres north of Port Blair through the Middle Andaman district, offers something that Havelock and Neil together cannot — active mud volcanoes, limestone caves formed over thousands of years and a road journey that passes through the Jarawa Tribal Reserve under a government-escorted convoy system. The caves are reached by a short motorboat ride from the Baratang jetty followed by a jungle trek, and the mud volcanoes sit a short walk from the main road. Neither requires any special fitness. Best Time to Visit
October through April is the recommended window for this andaman package from bangalore — the Baratang convoy road and the Havelock ferry crossings are both most reliable in the dry season. The monsoon from May through September brings rough seas and the Baratang road can be affected by heavy rainfall. December and January are peak months for demand.
