In January 2026 India formally submitted the living root bridges of Meghalaya to UNESCO for World Heritage consideration under the title Jingkieng Jri – the Khasi name for the living bridge tradition. The nomination covers the Khasi and Jaintia Hills cultural landscape as a whole. The bridges at Kudeng Rim and Kudeng Thymmai in the East Jaintia Hills are part of that nominated landscape and they sit at a height above deep river gorges that the Nongriat bridges, which run at valley floor level, do not. The kudeng rim root bridge trek gives the Jaintia root bridge tradition its own dedicated circuit before the world catches up with what the UNESCO nomination has already confirmed.
Bon handles the vehicle from Guwahati Airport or Railway Station with Jowai as Night 1 and a village homestay at Nongbareh near the bridge cluster for Night 2. Day 3 is the full trek to Kudeng Rim, Kudeng Thymmai and the Nongbareh bridge from the same base. Day 4 returns to Jowai before moving to Shillong for the final night. Daily breakfast on CP basis throughout. Local guide charges at the Nongbareh trailhead are paid locally on Day 3.

Guwahati → Jowai → Nongbareh → Kudeng Rim → Jowai → Shillong → Guwahati
Meghalaya stays cool year-round. Shillong enjoys pleasant weather (15°C–25°C), while Cherrapunji and Mawsynram receive heavy monsoons (June–September), creating dramatic waterfalls. Winters (October–February) are crisp and dry (4°C–16°C), perfect for exploring living root bridges, crystal-clear Dawki river, and limestone caves. October to April is the best time for sightseeing, trekking, and clear valley views.
