Overview

Kashmir in winter is a different valley from the one that appears in the standard spring and summer photographs. The Dal Lake in January carries thin ice on its margins at dawn, the Boulevard Road chinar trees stand bare against a white sky and the Zabarwan Hills above the city hold the snow from the last western disturbance. Gulmarg at approximately 2,650 metres receives powder that skiers from across India travel specifically to find and Pahalgam’s pine forests in snow carry a silence that the summer version of the same valley cannot produce. This kashmir winter tour package covers all four of these winter characters β€” the city, the ski station, the forest valley and the houseboat β€” in five days built for the December to February window.

Bon Voyagers handles the pickup from Srinagar Airport and covers four nights with a private Innova, Xylo or Scorpio class vehicle throughout. Night 1 is on a Dal Lake houseboat β€” the most specifically Kashmir experience the valley offers, carrying a different register in winter than in any other season. Night 2 is at Gulmarg for the snow and the Gondola. Nights 3 and 4 are at Pahalgam for the Lidder Valley pine forest and the snow-covered meadows above the town. Day 5 returns to Srinagar Airport. Daily breakfast and dinner on MAP basis throughout.

Itinerary

The kashmir winter tour package begins at Srinagar Airport where the Bon Voyagers vehicle is waiting. Winter arrivals in Srinagar carry a specific quality from the moment the aircraft door opens β€” the cold air at approximately 1,585 metres is noticeably different from any departure city in the plains. The afternoon covers the Dal Lake Shikara ride β€” the lake in winter is a quieter, stiller body of water than the summer version with fewer tourist boats and the mountains above carrying more snow than any other season. The houseboat check-in gives the group its Night 1 base on the water β€” breakfast on the deck the following morning with the Zabarwan Hills in winter light before the drive to Gulmarg. Overnight on Dal Lake houseboat.
