Wular Lake sits in the Bandipora district of North Kashmir at approximately 1,580 metres — a body of water that covers between 24 and approximately 100 square kilometres depending on the season, fed by the Jhelum River entering from the south and draining back into the Jhelum on the northern side. It is measured as the largest freshwater lake in Asia by surface area and the standard Kashmir tourist circuit, which focuses entirely on the 18-square-kilometre Dal Lake in Srinagar, does not visit it.
