Overview for Mawphlang Sacred Forest Tour

The Mawphlang Sacred Forest is a law kyntang – a grove held under Khasi community rules where no plant, soil or stone may be removed and nothing may be cut. It is not a wildlife reserve with a management committee. It is a grove that an entire community has protected for generations because the deity associated with it demands that protection, and the forest floor reflects what happens when human extraction stops completely. Multiple canopy layers, root systems above soil level and a silence that old-growth forest carries. The mawphlang sacred forest tour is built around giving that place its own unhurried day.

Bon handles the vehicle from Guwahati Airport or Railway Station with Shillong as the three-night base. Day 2 is the Sacred Forest – a 30-minute drive from Shillong to Mawphlang, a guided walk through the grove and the afternoon open. Day 3 covers Shillong fully by vehicle: the Don Bosco Museum, Laitlum Canyon, Umiam Lake and Elephant Falls. Day 4 closes at Guwahati Airport or Railway Station. Daily breakfast on CP basis throughout.
