Margan Top sits at approximately 4,100 metres on the South Kashmir border range — the highest motorable point in the Pir Panjal system and the pass that connects the Kashmir Valley to the Warwan Valley on the far side. Most people who know Margan Top know it as a crossing — the vehicle drives over it and drops into Warwan below. What they pass through without stopping is a stretch of high-altitude meadow on the Anantnag approach that in July and August carries wildflowers across the full bowl below the pass. Margan Top at 4,100 metres is accessible from late May through October — the summer months bring wildflower bloom across the upper meadows while the pass carries winter snow from November. Pahalgam at 2,130 metres stays cool in summer and cold in winter. July and August give the best meadow bloom below the pass.
